Pharmacology and Therapy practical

I don’t like the way Pharmacology department arrange the time for us. They should have followed the timetable given but right now they are arranging time according to their timetable and make us skip our classes in FKG. Lecturers are always smart. They threw all the responsibility to us, students to talk to the other lecturers about the time changed. In the end, students were scolded, blamed, nagged and many others.

Dr. Zul told one of the regular students to inform us this morning that we will be having our practical at 2PM. All of us don’t like having practical at 2PM because by having practical that time, we will have 4 hours of free time. Then Ali told us to join the class replacement of our Ilmu Bedah with the regulars today at 12PM. Alright… so we went having breakfast, again, 4 of us, Fransiscca, Desi, Joanne and me at Golden Yen at Jl. S. Parman. While eating I received call from Andrew about the latest news. He said the practical today is at 10AM not 2PM. When he called it was already 10.30AM. I was so shocked hearing that, quickly asked if the lecturer and everybody is in the lab already. He then said since everybody is not around, we will start practical at 11AM. Fuhh~ Thank GOD I don’t have to rush!

Sometimes I do think going places by car make us arrive slower. We four were among the last people who entered the lab. I still feel great nausea in me then… not specifically because of the food like previous days but I think most probably because I was feeling very well added up with Desi’s driving skill. Joanne felt the same too! We have rabbits today as our specimens and they all were so CUTE but they STINK!

Kelvin passed by the lab and he was standing there staring so I waved at him. He smiled and walked away. Radha then suddenly walked to me asking why I didn’t tell him I had a boyfriend already and how long have we been together. She asked me to show her our pictures. I only got one in my phone. She looked and smiled and commented saying the way we smile was so similar. Both of us having sweet smile, same angle *giggles* I just smiled listening this. I didn’t know who suddenly shouted “THERE! Li Ting’s boyfriend standing there looking!” Kesu then shouted “KELVIN!” I was stunned!

Everybody looked. All I can do is just smile to all of them, uttering no words! Umaiyal quickly said “Oh? Li Ting, so this is the guy you miss la?” What happened next was, all these girls purposely walk around the lab and pass by the door with glass where Kelvin was standing with ZW and Arlies to check out how Kelvin looked and this Umaiyal come up with “OMG! Li Ting! The FAT one?!” My respond was quick! “NO la… That’s ZW, my housemate!” She smiled so widely, of course, those bitchy evil smile that she always gave, saying “Oh? So it was the other guy. Hey… GOOD Li Ting, GOOD! He’s CUTE!” Frankly speaking, I was happy listening others praising my darling wee~

Then the other girls slowly came to me one by one and asked things like when we started and all of them were telling he looks good, some said he is cute *giggles* but nobody thought he was an Indonesian. Nobody thought I will be with an Indonesian. So after that hoo-haa in the lab when Kelvin was there, people start walk by me just to disturb, whispering or screaming “Kelvin” from time to time since the lecturer was not around for so long.

After lab, I told Joanne what was happening at the back of the lab. She said she knew because it wasn’t only happening at the back. In fact, the whole class heard “Kelvin’s Li Ting’s boyfriend.” Well, I guess right now, it is very clear to everybody that we are couple. I seriously never thought the whole class was talking about it OMG! Gossipers~

Here I am in the administration office in the campus. Classes after the mid semester examination that day are all messed up. The lecturers changed the timetable like nobody's business just like today, when I arrived to my class at around 9am, thought I have Pharmacology class at 9am, my classmates told me the class was canceled. I went online in Medic Ed and Dent Cafe again. Back to the class at 11am, attended Pathology Clinic lecture which ended 1 hour and 20 minutes earlier =.='

That is why I am here right now to update my page. Life has been really hectic and IMT lab is very stressful as usual. It stressed me out early of the semester with its carvings in the lab, I couldn't get the signature in time for the first few teeth. Thank GOD I managed to finish off my molars in time. Next, I have to turn these carved models in wax into acrylic. Both the incisors are still on my table. I still need to polish them up till they looked as if they're made of marbles but I haven't been touching them for weeks.

Done with the acrylics, I had this practical where we have to get our partner's impressions for both maxillary and mandible arches. It stressed me out too that time. My partner's teeth are difficult. Wonder if they are difficult or am I just the weak one in practicals all the time? Many advised me not to give up because this is the first time I'm learning and take impression of a person plus his teeth are difficult. Difficult for me as in he has great protrusion for his maxillary arch, he has got a class II teeth. This is better still. My headache worsen when it comes to getting the impression out, especially the mandible model made of Plaster of Paris. Here, the problem is with his crowded teeth.

Guess what?! I used up Rp. 700.000 in just 12 days. I never thought I would use these much. Most of the money were wasted on the materials used for these impressions and models. OMG! They are costing me so much, really never thought dental material can cost me that much. I felt so sorry to ask my partner to be seated there again and again for me to get his impressions. Last night, finally I got the Plaster of Paris out nicely.

I guess the next practical will be stressful too. It is to get the right occlusion from the models I did and hmmm... trim them nicely, cut them in the correct angle and put them into an occludator. I only got 4 practicals left. Hopefully I can finish everything in time. I don't want to repeat such stressful practicals again. I had turned my life upside down. My sleeping time, meal time, everything is not in order. Oh yaa... I'm having my appetite back already so to my friends who are worried of me, as I said to you guys do not worry! hehehe...

I'm trying to take more rice nowadays to gain energy. I felt I've used up all my energy already. I don't where and when I used them though. Finals are so near which is in another 3 weeks time. This time is really different from previous semesters. We have to study everything even those which were taught before mid semester. I must really work hard.

Today is my grandma's birthday and here I wish her Happy Birthday and Have a Great Trip to Egypt and Dubai this coming weekend. I'm not very sure how long she will be off for travelling this time though. Gotta give her a phone call later. Oh ya.. I heard today is also the day where UPSR results will be announced and I bet if it is today, the results are already announced. Hopefully my little cousin brother has good news for me =) GTG! My lappie's battery is running out =P

GYPS-burger?

I had another practical for my Dental Material today. Guess what we did? I did a GYPS-bueger! Yay~ Doesn't believe me? It's quite easy to do for me but it is time consuming *giggles* It is fun and it is made of gypsum where gyps is it's short form. It really looked like a burger.

Exactly like a chef mixed up flour and water in order to do cookies, I mixed the powder (gyps) with water in a rubber bowl using a plastic spatula with ratio 2:1. I didn't really follow the ratio though. I just do it according to what I think it is alright. No worries... my work turned out to be really fine, a perfect GYPS-burger. 

After mixing them up, I pour the mixture of the powder and water from rubber bowl into cuvet (there are 2 sides of cuvet, now pour into the lower part). Here we have to pour till it is about 3 quarter full. Then, I place both the incisals I carved the other day on the mixture, pressing it down so that half of the incisals are beneath the gyps.

Next, I'll let the gyps dry and harden. When it is hardening, I can feel the heat from outside the cuvet. It shows there is reaction between the molecules. Now that it is already dry and harden, I have to put vaseline on the surface of the gyps and the wax carved teeth, not to forget the cuvet so that it is easy to be opened later.

The vaseline is oily and sticky, making feel real discomfort. I forgot my pair of gloves. I put them into another bag *slaps of regrets* Now I see the disadvantage of having a few bags at a time. Vaseline act as a separating medium here where it separates the lower cuvet and the antagonis cuvet. We're doing the same thing to the upper side of the cuvet. Mix the powder and water again, and pour them into the cuvet covering the wax teeth.

Leave it to dry and harden again. NOW... li ting's GYPS-burger is ready to be served! Yummy! Anybody? Wanna give it a try on the taste of this GYPS-burger I made? lol

I'm proud with my hard work in carving teeh according to real teeth as samples, using melted tooth wax piece. Even though I didn't carve them that well but I'm proud with the 8 carved teeth I've done. I was wondering how come I am the slowest among all the others in this house of mine. Is it because I'm just unlucky? Or am I really slow in doing everything? 

The process of carving is not that easy I can say. I have to go to Matahari Dental Supply, which is the only dental supply I know around Medan to buy these tooth wax piece. Melting these wax are easy but pouring them into the blocks really need some skill otherwise the blocks made will be full with bubbles with low stability! Thanks to all my housemates who did these processes with me. After pouring the wax slowly into the blocks, we have to knock it softly so that the bubbles will come up. At times, when we didn't pour enough wax into the blocks, we have to add them up so that it is according to the size our lecturers wanted. Next, we have to let them cool and dry.

Carving in the lab is stressful. We have to hurry in the lab to get the approval from lecturers and then do the next step. Frankly speaking, I think lining up to get signatures from lecturers are a waste of time! I wasted plain 6 hours on the long queue in getting the lecturer's signature. At that moment, I'm so left behind as other friends are all faster than me. I felt so stressed out, I felt like crying at the same time BUT li ting is still li ting! I hate myself crying in fron of others.

Thanks alot to mummy who supported me everytime I'm down. She told me not to panic and take it  easy. I'm indeed very lucky that I easily get the other signatures for my molars compared to my maxillary premolar.

Finally, my hard work pays =) All eight of them stand handsome-ly and steadily for photoshoot session *giggles* I even have extra time to fool around with friends in the lab after I finish carving and touching up all eight teeth.
