feast now, diet later

Examinations? OVER! Assignments? DONE! Thesis? Waiting for lecturer’s call! What else do I have to do here? It has been long since I last gathered with my seniors. These 2 young ladies are quite close to me here in Medan. They’re like my sisters, giving me advice from time to time. They’re currently in their clinical years and will soon be a doctor =) Last Saturday, Roxanne called me out for spa together but too bad that place was full. Perhaps I’ll blog about it next time XD so we went for hair treatment together. People in Medan called it “creambath”. We had dinner together after that in a Chinese restaurant named Tea Garden, located at Jl. Multatuli. This is the 4th time I had my dinner there with friends. The food is good and the price is reasonable! The most important is, we all were happy there =)

When these people looked at the menu, they were telling “This is what we call MENU”. I LOLed listened to this. I remembered how Keith scratched his head and told us how stressed he was in choosing what food to eat because there were so many choices and it all looked yummy!

The menu

Many choices in it ^^

We ordered like we didn’t eat for days. Not only the Chinese dishes, we also ordered some side orders. We took these before our main dishes~

Leng Hong Kien

This is famous in Medan. You can see everywhere selling dim sum, selling this. The best Leng Hong Kien in Medan is said to be at the dim sum/steamboat restaurant at Jl. Barbura named Ah Yong Sangwo =)

Portuguese tart

One of my favorite! I don't know where else I can get this in Medan =(

Iced Jelly

Roxanne and her boyfriend ordered this. If I'm not wrong, it was mixture of some fruits, mainly mangoes and jelly in ice. Sweet!

Albert and Josephine ordered this shark's fin soup

They really know how to enjoy ~~

Yam Basket with Prawns and Chickens

See Theng chose this dish =) One of the famous dish served in Tea Garden I guess? I see many of the tables there had this dish on them.

Sambal Asparagus

Roxanne chose this dish =) We all longed for asparagus. It feels like we don't see many vegetables around the place nearby USU LOL.

Sze Chuan Style Beancurd

Li Ting chose this because everything else was so dry.

Fried Chicken with Prawn Sauce

Roxanne made the decision in ordering this since many didn't like what Joanne suggested but it was just plain fried chicken. It didn't have any sauce on it or tasted any like prawn >.<

Young Sam Chicken Soup

I had this herbal soup myself. You know me, I really couldn't take dry food. So, I guess this herbal soup suits me best!

Chinese Tea

We all had this pot of tea exactly like those uncles/grandpas drinking tea while talking to their old friends like they didn't meet for ages. We shared. We gossiped. We teased. We laughed. It felt great to gather together.

This is the end of the menu ^^

There were many other dishes that I didn't take photo. We were all busy eating, enjoying the dinner together. I should have video recorded down how Roxanne looked at the food when the waitresses served them. She was drooling! Check out the receipt below. It was so long~~

It all costs us Rp. 322.850. I'm not sure if we got discount since we used Kam Hoong's credit card. That's what we do all the time when we eat together with Kam Hoong XD See Theng asked for membership card from the waitress there but too bad the owner of the restaurant only will provide membership card to their regular customers.

Again, Roxanne and her boyfriend talked about their old time story. This time, it was a little more interesting. We discussed and video recorded it. I was telling Roxanne, I’ll keep this video safe until their wedding day. There were few lines which were so funny I never thought she would say it out, i.e “we girls gotta act generous, pretend like we didn’t care and he seriously did it like we didn’t care!” LOL. See this is the voice of a girl deep from her heart and she is brave enough to say it in front of her friends and boyfriend, in the video!

li ting is finally FREE

I’m finally a little free after a few sleepless nights and yea, I have these panda eyes on me. I see many of my friends are playing with this dtac one DIY thing in Facebook so I tried out myself and checked out how terrible I looked when I have these freckles on me with a pair of PANDA eyes and sausage-like lips after taking Joko Solo’s chili. I've copied that image here =)

Why was I so busy? Thanks to the lecturers from the Department of Physiology. They had not entered any of the classes since the first class up to our Mid Semester. We, as students who waited patiently in the class for the lesson had given the lecturers calls to remind them of the classes. They, brilliantly, gave us some of their brilliant excuses like:

1. Today is not me who will be entering, try calling this number.

2. I’m not sure about classes in your faculty. Please get more information from the Head of Department.

3. Okay. 2PM right? I’ll be there. <-- this is the BEST excuse ever

There are more other excuses but I picked the top 3 excuses that the lecturers used. Guess what? In the end, we didn’t have examination for our Physiology.

They had this ‘good’ idea saying they’ll want us to do some papers and the marks for our papers will be our Mid Semester Examination marks. The head of department gave our class representative some topics that we’re supposed to learn before our Mid Semester. I shall say this class representative was so inefficient. I shouldn’t blame him, perhaps? Since the classes were canceled all the time, it is normal for him to have NO contacts of the students who are taking up that subject at all. So that caused him to give us the topic we should be doing a day before the due date. That is why I didn’t sleep for one night, doing that work alone even though I have partner. Well, you shouldn’t ask much about why my partner isn’t doing it. You can try throwing guesses but I’m not planning to talk about it.

Broken heart season, yes?

There are many kinds of people in this world as we can see and we sure will be seeing these varieties of people in our everyday life. Some are helpful, kind, nice, outgoing, cheerful, generous, etc. while some others are plain selfish, boastful, pretenders, irresponsible, etc. What kind of people are you meeting recently? I’m seeing a few of interesting people recently. There are these girls who are so in love with their boyfriends. Their boyfriends are their life. I don’t understand why we can’t have our friends and boyfriend at the same time. Why did you let your boyfriend out with their friends when they don’t allow you to hang out with your friends? Why must the boys give their girls such a hard time. I know, not all guys are like that.

I had a few conversations with a few different people, talking about their relationship problems. One said, never give all your heart to a guy for he will never appreciate what you gave but rip it apart cruelly. I don’t agree. If you don’t give all your heart to the person you love because of the fear of him ripping it apart, hurting you, then why are you still be with the guy since you don’t trust him? I believe love is about trusting each other. Trust that you both have feelings for each other. Trust that you both won’t betray each other. You’ll be hurt because you haven’t met the right guy in your life. Love is not about searching. Love, in fact, will come by itself without you welcoming it. There is a friend of mine who told me, “Li Ting wasn’t stupid. Li Ting was innocent. Li Ting doesn’t know what love is. That’s the reason, she loved the wrong person.” This line, indeed cheered me up when many of them were telling how stupid I was =) I’m not sure if she is teasing me or convincing me but still, thanks a lot Tracie Gan !!

One told me we shouldn’t remember what had happened in the past relationship because there were all about sad memories. I don’t agree. There are always some reasons why you were in relationship. No matter how bad the condition was, how bad the guy/girl was, there sure is something that you admire so much that you fall for him/her. Thus, there are sweet and bitter memories. Keep the sweet ones. At least when you thought of him/her one day, you’ll tell yourself “we were so sweet. We had good time together.” As for the sad stories, a couple of weeks ago, I would say, “delete them!” but the current me would say “keep them as a reminder for me not to let the same thing happen again.” I’m not sure if I’m right with what I’m thinking.

Two days back, I had a call which made me feel real bad. Even though I don’t think I had that power of making others into that sad and mad, but when I knew about it, I really feel bad. I want to help but I didn’t know how T.T I’m afraid I might make the situation worse. They are nice people. I know how much they care for me. I don’t hope things like that would happen to their family. I hope their problems would be settled soon. Well, is this broken heart season?

There’s another girl, well, not about love talks, about responsibility this time. I see not only her, but many students did the same. Yes, at most time, lecturers were not actually teaching, but plain reading the slides like we can’t read =.= but does that mean you won’t have to attend class just because the lecturer is mumbling and made you sleepy? Then what is the purpose you’re here? Aren’t you scared to be barred from examinations? If you really got barred, what would you do? Cry? Beg for help? Does that even help? What about assignments? Copy and paste others’ work and that’s the end of the story? So irresponsible! There are people who are very quiet at all times. People like that are the most dangerous people on earth. We won’t know what is in their mind. We don’t know what they’re thinking, what they’re planning, who they like, who they hate. Some might think, being quiet at times can help avoiding unnecessary problems but silence and hiding yourself is obviously running away from problems. You think you want to stay neutral? It is not easy! In fact, you’ll only give problems to others. Irresponsible! I wonder when these irresponsible people can start thinking properly and realized how irresponsible they were. Wake up people! Nobody will be there to help you do all these shits forever!

Some educators SHOULDN'T be respected.

What is education? Are schools a place to educate students? I always thought we were sent to school since young to learn to be a better person. School is a place we grew up with friends under lessons and guidance from teachers. When we were younger, we will listen to what the teacher told us in school. Some kids even told their parents “Teacher said so!” to show their parents that what they learned from school is always right BUT how far do you agree with this?

Yes, in primary school, we do listen and obey our teachers’ words obediently. When they say “do it”, we’ll “do it”. Does this happen in secondary school? Perhaps it is because of the rebellious years the teenagers are going through. At that age, students don’t usually take the elders’ advice. In fact, they listen to their friends but I can still see what most of the teachers are doing in the school are for our own good. We’re still innocent young kid that time, enjoying ourselves with no worries. What we did were all about making fun of others and laugh together. That is fun for us that time. Teenagers tend to tease each others, giving each others some weird or funny nicknames just like I myself, I have loads of funny names given. I didn’t know how my friends came out with it at times.

Then, some will be heading to college or some might be working to earn themselves some pennies. I’m currently in the stage of university life, doing dentistry studies, where most of my lecturers are either doctors or dentists. Life in university somehow confused me. I don’t get it why we must show so much of respect to a person who doesn't worth it.

Example? Alright, here it goes. Let’s talk about punctuality. We were taught to be punctual since young. Since time is precious for everyone, so why waste others’ time by being late even though there is this saying: better late than never. It is funny when these doctors are telling us students that we shall not be entering the class any later than the lecturer. Okay, I’ll say that’s true. We should indeed be in the class on time BUT most of the time, the lecturers themselves are late; some even took more than 30 minutes late. Imagine, some classes only take 50 minutes and the lecturer can be late for 30 minutes. So, how much time is there left for them to actually TEACH us?! Not only that, some lecturer just skipped our class without telling us the class is canceled. Even when there is class replacement, some LAZY lecturers didn’t even enter our classes. It is such a waste of time waiting for a person who would not come and give lesson in the class!

Another example? Hmm… say, back to the word education. We all know smoking is bad for health. In medical or dental studies, it is for sure that doctors or dentists would be telling again and again that long term smoking might cause cancer. They educate us not to smoke and at the same time they are smoking. Hold on; mind that the 3 words “They are smoking” really meant THEY ARE SMOKING! They smoked in the class, they smoked in the laboratory. They even smoked in the examination hall. Shouldn’t they be ashamed of themselves? Is this the way an educator should be acting?

There are many others that are happening in the university which I think it shouldn’t happen especially in a professional course like the one I’m studying now. They are telling us in every class to educate our patients. I wonder how these experienced doctors educate their patients. Why can’t they just stop smoking for a day or two? It’s as if they would die without smoking =.=! I really hate it when they smoke especially when I’m talking to them and they blew out the smoke, though in another direction. The longer I live here, the shorter my life would be. Yes, I really think so.
